Producers of the film Crazxy have marketed it as ‘a film from the makers of Tumbbad’ which raises the expectations form this one too, unfortunately Crazy lacks the scale, canvas and the engrossing storyline of Tumbbad. While the official trailer depicted it something like an out of the world film, this one-actor film turns out to be just a notch above other average films.
Makers of Tumbbad have delivered a ‘Paani kum chai’ film, in comparison to the recent record breaking worldwide interest of their previous film Tumbbad on OTT platform, particularly as the filmmakers want us to believe.
This solo actor movie centered around Dr Abhimanyu Sood (Sohum Shah) who finds himself into a high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase after receiving a chilling phone call seeking ransom for his kidnapped daughter. As he races against time, every road unravels shocking twists and turns, pulling him deeper into a relentless web of mystery and danger.
There have been quite a few memorable one-actor movies and among the recent one-actor movies is Tom Hardy’s Locke (2013), the acclaimed Radhakrishnan Parthiban’s Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019) and of course Sunil Dutt’s Yaadein (1964).

The positive aspects of Crazxy are wonderful cinematography by Sunil Borkar and Kuldeep Mamania, convincing performance by Sohum Shah and a couple of songs that are composed by Vishal Bharadwaj. The film takes comfortable time in the first half to establish that Dr Abhumanyu Sood has erred in one of his operations that cost the patient’s life. His legal advisor ‘Kala coat’ opines that he has a weak case to defend and that the Doctor would in all probabilities have to serve a term in prison. Therefore an out of court settlement has been worked out, so the doctor is out to pay Cash to the plaintiff (complainant).
The twist suddenly appears with a call from the kidnapper of his specially abled daughter who demands the same amount to set the girl free. Picking up pace in the second half with time running out for the doctor to pay the settlement amount and there is another emergency call from his hospital for operating a patient who instantly requires surgery.
Too many close-up shots of the Doctor deter the viewer’s interest, the prominent display of the car model, or it is in-film branding? On way to the undisclosed location of the kidnapper, his tyre is punctured and the sequence of the doctor frantically searching for the bolt of his wheel. How could the bolt get lost?
Has the doctor lost his way or is it the filmmaker?
One would be scared to get operated from doctors who depute their juniors for the task which eventually leads to complications and the need for another surgery for the complications developed in the heart. That aspect appears unrealistic. Or is this the SOP followed by doctors who finally pacify the patient’s family – Sub kuch Bhagwan ke haath mein hai! No wonder.
